Connect Groups

Why join a connect group?

Our primary goal as Connect Groups is to create opportunities to enable people to connect to others, to God, and to our community. We believe there is incredible value simply in helping people to connect to others – the early church did not exist without it. Being part of a Connect Group gives the opportunity for friendships to naturally develop, and we know it is through these connections that people begin to live the full life that God intends for us to live. Once these connections and friendships are established, we can then move onward together to experience spiritual growth, discipleship, care and belonging.

Our hope is that our roots grow down deep into Him (Colossians 2:7) and to love each other well (1 Peter 1:22). Sign up today!

What is a Connect Group?

A Connect Group is a group composed of 12 - 15 individuals that meet in convenient locations all over the Grove City area to connect to each other, to Go, and to the community. We believe that Connect Groups are not just one more activity to add to your schedule, but they are here to help people in three main ways. First, by connecting to others you will gain support, encouragement, and care as you journey together. Second, by connecting to God and having him the center of your life will bring peace like you have never experienced. Third, by connecting to the community you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the area around you.

How many people will be in my Connect Group?

Size will vary depending on the type of group and the location, but a Connect Group is typically composed of 12 - 15 individuals.

How long does a meeting run for? How often do groups meet?

A Connect Group typically lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours. During the 10 - 12 week session each group will meet on a weekly basis unless otherwise stated by the specific group.

Why are groups semester based? What does that mean?

Semester based simply means that all of our Connect Groups will be open for 3 short-term semesters each year (Spring: 10 - 12 weeks, Summer: 8 weeks, Fall/Winter: 10 - 12 weeks). Every person attending GCAC is encouraged to join a Connect Group each semester and make a short-term commitment to that group, with freedom to re-join a group or try another one the following semester.

We do this for several reasons: to give easy on and off ramps for everyone, because it's easier for people to join a group when everyone is starting at the same time, it's a short-term commitment, and it creates opportunities to get to know more people in our church family. There are also more group options, with new topics and types of groups offered each semester.

Can I join a group if sign-ups / enrollment is closed?

Because our semesters are fairly short, we do not allow signing up once enrollment is closed. Fortunately, there isn't a long wait before open enrollment and our next semester starts. If you know someone in a group, feel free to visit their group to get a feel for what it is like.

Will I be expected to talk in this group?

Although it is not required, sharing and talking is an important part of connecting to others. Your group is a safe place for you to share your thoughts and experiences, and to get to know some people better. While we do spend some time in prayer in all of our groups, you are not expected to pray out loud if you are not yet comfortable with that.

Can I stay in my current group?

Yes! You are encouraged to join a group each semester where you believe you will best be able to grow and connect to God, to others, and to the community, whether that is a new group or your current group. (Leaders will have a chance to sign returning members up a week early.)

Do I have to be a Christian to be part of a group?

No - everyone is welcome and has a chance to find belonging and friendship, regardless of background or belief.

Does someone have to be a Christian or church member to be a leader of a group?

Yes, group leaders are followers of Jesus, attend GCAC regularly, and are members of GCAC.

What would my responsibilities be if I wanted to lead / co-lead / host a Connect Group?

Please contact Pastor Nate Grossoehme if interested at Nate.g@grovecityalliance.org.

Do I need to bring anything to a group meeting?

This will vary depending on your group. Some groups will ask participants to purchase a book, others may ask members to bring a dish or snack to share. Some groups it would be useful to bring a Bible and notebook. Your leader will let you know before you start what is expected or required.

Is childcare provided?

This will vary depending on your group. When you sign up for a particular group information will be provided whether or not there is childcare.
